Farzana Parveen, 25, was killed by nearly 20 members of her own family outside a courthouse in Lahore, Pakistan, in broad daylight.
Ms Parveen was on her way to court to contest an abduction case her family had filed against her husband, Mohammad Iqbal.
But in a shock confession, the 45-year-old today admitted that he strangled his first wife so that he could marry Ms Parveen.
Mr Iqbal told AFP: “I was in love with Farzana and killed my first wife because of this love.”
He said that he was spared prison because his son, who reported the murder, later dropped charges against him.
