“A bizarre murder case involving a botched robbery and a transvestite police officer has been closed after two years.
Police said Thursday in a 35-page report that Robert Bouslaugh, a former police officer and transvestite who was running for sheriff in Durango, Colo., was justified when he shot and killed Ross Torres, 18, during a robbery.
Investigators said two years ago this week, Bouslaugh was inside an adult book store where he met Torres. Investigators said the two got into Bouslaugh’s car and drove to the hotel where Bouslaugh was staying.
Police said Torres then told Bouslaugh to go to his hotel room and round up as much cash as he could in 30 seconds or Torres would come inside and shoot Bouslaugh. “Mr. Bouslaugh went into his room armed himself with a handgun, went out and tried to surprise Torres in the hallway and take him into custody,” Albuquerque Police Detective Scott Saul said.
Police said Torres reached for his gun and Bouslaugh shot first, hitting and killing Torres with one shot. The case was handed over to the district attorney’s office for final review.
Police never arrested Bouslaugh for the shooting. After the incident, Bouslaugh withdrew his bid for sheriff. He is living in Colorado.”
