Joe Tua “Bucket“ Coleman, a gang member in Auckland, New Zealand, beat Georgina Matehaere with a baseball bat on December 16, 2002. Matehaere managed to get herself to a local hospital after the beating, but was promptly discharged. She was returned to the hospital via ambulance. She died six days later of her injuries. Her last words before she lost consciousness were a plea for peace. Diane Henare-Wynyard, Coleman’s significant other, helped Coleman evade police for some time, so that he wouldn’t be imprisoned during Christmas.
